Because it was an amazing fall day I decided to take a slow ride to work and bring my camera along. I took this picture on Campbell Blvd in Cambria. When are the corn mazes opening?

The National Park Service has been placing these signs strategically all over western New York ever since it was designated as the canalway. This one was one Route 31 near Campbell Blvd.

On Route 93 I came across this old barn with a painted logo for the Niagara County Bicentennial being held this year.
My favorite country store. It's right near my work (Route 31 and Upper Mountain Road in Cambria) and has amazing subs and home made baked goods.

It was an amazing fall day today and I felt like going for a bike ride. My destination was the area just south of downtown. This old warehouse ( E & B Holmes Machinery Co.), soon to be called the "River Lofts at the Cooperage" will become 22 apartments with first floor retail. It sits at 55 Chicago Street at Ohio. It seems kind of isolated but if you head just 2 blocks north you run into the construction of the new Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in the Cobblestone District.

While heading to the E & B Holmes building I came across what apparently is a future new park almost across the street from the building on Ohio Street. A banner at the entrance said, 'Welcome to Buffalo River Front Park'. The picture on the bottom shows signs of an old boardwalk on the river's edge and the Michigan Street lift bridge in the background. Also hidden in the picture is a little bit of the downtown skyline and a grain elevator.
This building at 173 Elm Street has been proposed as a heaquarters for a local company as feel as some new high end apartments or condos.
While heading back towards my place I noticied that numerous downtown streets were recently paved. Looking good!
This old McDonald's at 477 Main Street will be coverted to a communications firm by a company currently leasing space elsewhere in the city.

Last night I went to my softball banquet at the Hamlin House (c.1865) on Franklin Street in Allentown. The league, called the Queen City Softball League is a gay league.
An overhead view of the banquet hall.
The trophy's and gifts await us!
Me, Kristen, and Amy.
Jerry, our team manager presents Sal with the MVP gift.
The team poses with our 2nd place trophy. (What a bunch of derelicts!)
Me and my girl Amy.
If I could only post the picture of what he was looking at in the women's restroom!
Scott, Amy, and Brandon wrap up the night with some Karaoke.

Check out my latest article on buffalorising.com about the alledged paranormal activty occuring at Buffalo's Iron Island Museum. As FBI Agent Fox Mulder from the X-Files would say, "Do you believe?".

Yesterday the Buffalo News reported that the city's Metro Rail service saw a 45.9% increase in usage in the second quarter of this year. WGRZ also reported that the NFTA Chairman is finally seriously considering expansion of the service to the airport, U.B. Amherst, Niagara Falls, and the southtowns all of which are a no brainer! Check out the story on the Buffalo News website.

Check out my newest post on buffalorising.com about the American Red Cross 9-11 Memorial.

Monday, September 08, 2008

The American Red Cross has established a 9/11 Memorial display on the front lawn of their headquarters on Delaware Avenue. It contains a flag for every person who perished on that day.
Here's a great view of the entire display.

Each flag has a tag attached to it that represents a person who died on that tragic day.
Another section includes the Western New York connection to 9/11.

A Remembrance Board has been set up where people can leave comments.
The tags on each flag are part of a color coded system to help people identify the casualties.
A Culutral Walk of Fame has been established on Elmwood Avenue at Bidwell Park. It honors great Buffalo notables such as John Albright and Mark Twain.
Cultural Concert International sponsers the walk of fame.

The Burchfield Penny Art Center had a grand opening on Friday for the building. Here's a picture of the controversial windowless Elmwood Ave side of the building.
Construction crews started work last week on some new project at Oak and Huron Streets. I have no clue what they're building. More information to come.
The Western New York Print Arts Center will be opening up soon on Washington Street. They have actually old printing presses and will be teaching people how to make books the way it was done decades ago.

Myself and friends, Darrell and Luke headed out to check out the new Greenway Nature Trail on Buffalo's Outer Harbor along Lake Erie.
Here's me where the Bell Slip meets Lake Erie.
A great shot of the windmills with the rocks in the foreground.
I want a sail boat!
A father and son walk the trail with the windmills in the background.
A look at the entire Bell Slip.

After the Outer Harbor we took a drive to the Erie Basin Marina. The bottom picture shows the new beach that was cleared this past spring.

This giant yacht was docked at the marina. Looks like they spent a pretty penny on it!

On our way out of the marina we happened across this hot muscule boy taking his boat out of the water!
On our way to the car I noticied a rare old fire box. This may be one of only a hand full left in the entire city.
The former Donovan State Office Building is being re mediated for asbestos in preparation for demolition for more development near the Erie Canal Harbor.
