For those of you who don't know the facts. NY State DOT wants to add two two-way streets on either side of the current raised portion of Route 5. The alternative plan, which I support, would be to demolish the raised portion of Route 5 and make a single at grade boulevard with reduced speed and a tree lined median. The alternative would eliminate the unsightly raised portion of Route 5 which currently obstructs views of the lake and would provide a signature entrance way into the city that would make the traffic flow better and slower, allow new streets and developments to meet with the new boulevard at grade level, and would not perpetuate the existence of the sky way.
